I think I recall a scene from the Five Star Theater Company / BBC re-creations of Flywheel, Shyster and Flywheel where someone asks Emmanuel Ravelli (Chico) how he presents a case to the jury. Chico replies whith an answer that goes something like this: "First I tell em whadda I'm gonna tell em. And thenna I tell em. And thenna I tell em whadda I just told em." Does anyone know whether my memory is serving me well? If this really is where I heard it, and you can help me find an exact quote of the passage, could you please provide me with a reference?

I don't have the answer to this off the top of my head, but I can give you a lead. There is a book of all but one of the scripts of this show, called "Flywheel, Shyster and Flywheel: The Marx Brothers Lost Radio Show." that was published in 1988. This book, while out of print, should be available in most major libraries. It features all but one script from the original programs as broadcast on CBS in 1932 and 1933. And since the one missing script has never been found, it's a good bet this line wasn't from that show. The BBC versions of these shows were rearranged, but they're basically from the original scripts by Nat Perrin and Arthur Sheekman. However, it is remotely possible that this bit wasn't in the original, in which case you'd have to track down a copy of the show you heard to identify it. I only have copies of about eight of these newer shows, and I don't specifically recall this line from Chico. Of course, there are several broadcasts from the BBC recreation of this series I've never heard. I hope this was at least some help to you. Best regards,

Talking about the BBC broadcasts of FLYWHEEL, SHYSTER AND FLYWHEEL, do you know if any of them are available on cassette or CD? I know this should probably belong in the other category, but I thought I might stand a better chance of a answer here. Thanks! |
