This forum appears to have become Zeppo. It has less and less to say every time and I think it's about to go into business as an agent. What do you think? |

I agree. I have not been on this site in quite a while. The last time I posted was regarding the new Groucho biography. I was looking for feedback, but no one replied. Oh well and hail Freedonia! |

I'm sorry to hear no one replied. I don't recall the question. Could you repeat it and I'll reply even if I don't know what I'm talking about. On second thoughts better change "even if " for "especially if". |

I would never be offensive of Zeppo's memory. but I want to bring some clarity to an image of him. From what I've read, Zep was a brilliant man, very funny, wrote much of the gag material the guys put into the shows (Paramount and stage). But further research shows him to have been a slick dealer, a man who walked a fine line between acceptable and unacceptable behavior. I take it he dealt a great deal with underworld figures - purely in business, not crime - and was quite bitter about any criticism pointed in his direction. The Marx Borthers Scrapbook reveals an embittered old man who others, and here I reference Susan Marx, held at an arm's length. So who was Zeppo? How did he become this man? I'd like to think I could warm up wonderfully to Chico, Harpo, Gummo, and possibly Groucho. But Zeppo? This seems a stretch across a gulf of bitterness. Can anyone reflect on this? ------------------
