Hello -- I came upon your site through a Google search. I'm director of the Landmark Loew's Jersey Theatre located at 54 Journal Square, Jersey City, NJ., just across from New York City, minutes from Midtown Manhattan via PATH subway and minutes from the N.J. Turnpike. The Loew's is a magnificent old movie palace that was once scheduled for demolition, but was saved through a grass-roots effort. Today it is being restored and operated as an non-profit arts center. An important part of our programming is the presentation and appreciation of classic film. We've completely restored our projection facilities, installing two studio-grade Kinetone projectors using carbon arc lamp houses for the whitest, brightest light. Our screen is an eye-popping 50 ft wide by 25 ft high! Over the last year we've been presenting monthly classic film weekends that attract audiences from throughout the Metropolitan Area. As part of our Second Annual Classic Comedy Weekend, we will present "A Night At The Opera" at 8 PM local time on Saturday, March 29. Along with the film, Paul G. Wesolowski, publisher of The Freedonia Gazette, will display a portion of his large collection of rare Marx memorabilia and give a brie introduction that will include questions from the audience/ Besides the feature, we will also screen three classic Three Stooges shorts. Tickets for the Marx screening, display and talk are $6 for adults, $4 for children 12 and under and seniors. (Earlier on March 29, at 4 PM, we will present a 40th Anniversary screening of Laurel & Hardy's Sons of the Desert. And on Sunday, March 30 we will honor Bob Hope in his centenary year with a double bill of The Road to Morocco and The Seven Little Foys.) If you have any questions about the Loew's, our programming, directions, etc., please visit our website at www.loewsjersey.org. Or email us back at this address: pgiordan@prodigy.net. I have to admit, I'm not really a seasoned web-trawler, but I am trying to let "Marxists" know about our screening. Perhaps you can help spread the word. Thanks --

I'm wondering if the print you have has what I feel is the complete stateroom scene, ending with Harpo sliding down the pile of bodies to Margaret Dumont's feet. All modern prints I have seen fade out when the bodies start to pile out. I admit I'm still looking for someone else who remembers this, but I'm very sure I did. Apparently the full scene ending has been lost due to its removal from the prints by Marx Brothers collectors as it's incredibly funny. |
