"This is my cat, Chico, named because Chico's my favorite Marx Brother, and because we adopted him on Chico's birthday. He's only a year old, so he can be quite a pest. I'm the only one in the family that likes him. He delights in chasing my other cat Smokey around the house, rolling in the dirt, playing with suckers, and, of course, sleeping." -- Elisabeth [Of course, as we all know, the original Chico delighted in playing with suckers too! -- ed.]
Fellow Marx Lister, Gary Peavyhouse, has had several cats named for the Marxes. Here are a few photos:
"The picture of the two cats is Harpo and his brother Groucho (named thusly for the black spot on his nose). Groucho was an outdoor cat and was run over by a car several years ago. The other brothers, Chico and Zeppo, are not pictured. Chico was out "Tom-catting" (chasing the female cats in true Chico fashion) at the time. It was usual for Chico to disappear for weeks at a time and then just show up on the porch one day, out of the blue, ready for a meal and a pat on the head. Finally, Chico went away and never returned. Zeppo had disappeared by the time the picture was taken."
Since he's been neutered, it's high time you get him a wife and a few adopted kittens to keep him company!
This is a photo of Rufus T. Firefly in his very first race.
Here's another shot of Rufus after winning at Worcester. He won five times in his career.
This photo shows J. Cheever Loophole winning at Beverly. He won seven times in many places, and still holds the six-furlong course record at Kingfield all-weather dirt track.
This beautiful animal is none other than Hugo Z. Hackenbush, racing at Edinburgh.
Here's another shot of Hugo.
And last, this is a shot of Wolf J. Flywheel in action.
